Antique Porcelain Dessert Plates & Demitasse Cups, C 1890 White with Gilt Trim
Antique Porcelain Dessert Plates & Demitasse Cups, C 1890 White with Gilt Trim
A set of fine porcelain plates with insets for demitasse cups retailed by the New York City firm of Wilhelm & Graef. The set of eight in white are beautifully decorated with a gilt design. A wide border at the edge of the plates and the top of the cups feature raised gilt work. The firm was located on Broadway and was a well know shop for fine china, glass, and table settings. A perfect service for dessert served with a bit of expresso or your favorite after dinner beverage. The cups could also be used for desserts such as chocolate mousse with fresh fruit served on the plates. The set is unique in that the cups are demitasse size and not tea cup size.
The set is marked for Wilhelm & Graef as the retailer with no maker’s marks noted. This firm did sell quite a bit of Limoges and the set has the quality that one would expect from Limoges.
