Georgian Sterling Silver & Mother of Pearl Fruit/ Dessert Service, C 1820

An antique Georgian sterling silver dessert service for six with Mother of Pearl handles. Twelve pieces with presentation case. The forks and knives have a plain design which was typical of the sets produced in the Georgian Era. The pearl handles are square with cantered edges.

English, Circa 1825, hallmarked for sterling silver as denoted by the Lion Passant mark, Monarch's mark is present along with the maker's mark for John Law. Date mark and assay town are too worn to read; however, Law entered his mark in 1824 in Sheffield and the Monarch's mark on the set was used only until 1833. This places the set between 1824-1833

Measurements; knives 7 1/2" long, forks 6 1/4" long. Due to the Mother of Pearl, weight of the set is not measurable.

Condition report, overall very good, one handle has a crack which is stable (pressure had been applied to test the handle), normal usage marks on fork tines and blade of knives. The wood case in good condition; however the lock is in closed position so the lid does not fit tight. It needs an adjustment.
