Georgian Sterling Silver Butter Dish or Bowl with Liner, Family Crest 

A Georgian sterling silver butter dish or bowl. The silver dish is of round form has a glass liner and removable lid decorated with a stylish finial. Simple and classic in form the dish bears a Coat of Arms on the lid and has been inscribed with the year 1817.

 The butter dish is marked for Rebecca Emes & Edward Barnard. Rebecca is known as one of England's most accomplished female silversmiths and was the widow of John Emes. Shortly after John’s death she formed a partnership with Edward Barnard. Together they created exceptional silver pieces.

A fine piece for any Georgian silver collection.

English sterling silver; makers mark is for Rebecca Emes & Edward Barnard, mark entered 14 October 1808. Leopard's head mark for assay town of London. Date letter U for 1815 along with Monarch’s head mark.

Measurements; 4 ½” high X 5 ½’ in diameter (on top) 4 ½” on bottom, 397 grams weight total silver weight or 12.76 troy ounces.

Condition Report; Very good condition in accordance with age and use. Small ding on edge of lid and bottom of dish, minor surface scratches.
