A fine French sterling silver cup and saucer. The splendid set features scrolling foliage and Griffins set between two decorative bands. The cup has a large oval cartouche or medallion which has not been engraved. A C-scroll shaped handle with more matching ornamentation finishes the set. Please note the meticulous details of the raised work on a textured ground.
Hallmarked with the French sterling silver, C 1900, marked for .950 silver guarantee for French Minerve 1st standard mark. Both pieces carry the maker’s punch for The Eugène Roussel Dourtre who registered his mark on March 3rd 1849
Measurements; saucer 6” in diameter, cup 3 ¼” in diameter and 2” high (without handle) handle to edge 4 ½” and cup edge to handle 4 ½” 243 gram weight or 7.8 troy ounces
Condition Report; very good, micro surface scratches in accordance with age and use.
