Antique Elkington & Co Silver Tray with Armoril

An antique Elkington tray or service plate with scroll and foliate borders along with armorial crests. Lion rampant holding cross engraved to the rim in two places. Impressive details.

The tray and/or serving dish can serve many purposes for the Elkington collector. From serving drinks to holding mail the quality of the piece stands out. Elkington & Co has a long history of fine craftsmanship. Elkington held royal warrants of appointments from Queen Victoria, King Edward VI, King George V, King Edward VIII and King George VI. One of their most famous pieces is the electrotype copy of the famous Jerningham Wine Cooler, at the Victoria & Albert Museum. The original cooler was made of solid silver during the years 1736-1737. A visit to the V & A museum is always worthwhile while in London. The wine cooler is spectacular.

English silver plate bearing marks for Elkington & Co., Birmingham, England, 1853. Marks: E&Co under crown in shield, E, M, &Co, (date mark O). The company was founded by Henry and George Elkington around 1840
