Antique Sterling Silver Collapsible Traveling Cup or Beaker
A fine sterling silver collapsible cup with a sterling case and ornate handle. These cups were devised for sporting events, picnics, and travel. A gentleman or lady would open the case and pull the cup up in a telescoping fashion. The handle then closes down against the side for stability. After use, the cup collapses back into itself and is stored in the silver case.
American sterling c 1900 marked for George W. Shiebler, New York. The firm produce high quality sterling along with mixed metal hollow ware. The firm was dissolved in 1910.
Measurements; cup when extended 2 3/8” high, top opening 1 ¾”. Case is 2 ¼” in diameter and 1” high
Weight; 108 grams or 3.47 troy ounces
Condition Report; Very good, case has 2 tiny dings, cup has normal surface scratches in accordance with age and use. As the pictures show, there are normal marks on each section where the silver telescopes over the next section
