French Sterling Silver Timbale or Beaker, 18th C

A fine antique French sterling silver timbale or beaker, 18th C.  The tulip shaped timbale has a floral motif and beaded frieze on the domed foot. Initials of MAP have been engraved on the foot.

The cup has the standard and guarantee marks for Paris, used from 1797-1809 along with a mark of an eagle's head (countermark used after the Decree of May, 1803) Maker’s punch for Louis Tassin, 1798, crown & pellet (une couronne et point)

Measurements; 4 7/8” high, top opening 3 ½” diameter, base 2” diameter, 136 grams or 4.37 troy ounces

Condition Report; Very good. Minor surface scuffs and a few tiny dings all in accordance with age and condition. Rim and foot slightly out of round. No repairs or cracks noted.
