Georgian Sterling Silver Wine Funnel, George III

An antique English sterling silver wine funnel with swan shaped neck. The conical shaped funnel has an outer rim and sieve that lifts off the base. The hand pierced strainer has a reeded edge and decorative pattern in the piercing. Classic and simple in design, the style is in line with funnels made in the late 1790’s.

English, George III, hallmarked for .925 sterling as denoted by the Lion Passant mark, assay town of London (Leopard’s head), date letter H for 1803, Monarch’s head, the maker’s mark is worn, with only an M being seen.

Measurements, 5 ¼” high and the base at widest point is 3 1/8”, 2.95 troy ounces 96 grams in weight

Condition Report, overall, very good for age and use. The funnel has normal wear consistent for the age of the piece and for sterling silver. The items to note are. The bowl is out of round with a few small bends on the decorative edge and inside the bowl. Small bend in top of funnel. Several dings on the base.
