Antique English Sterling Silver Salt Pepper Set, Presentation Box

A pair of English sterling silver canister shaped salt and pepper shakers with presentation box. The late Victorian set has hallmarks for the year 1899. The pair have raised stepped flared bases and finial shaped tops. Both the base and tops have gilt interiors.

English, sterling as denoted by the Lion Passant for .925 silver, assay town of London, date mark for 1899, and maker’s mark H over W&Co over Ld into a quatrefoil for Horace Woodward & Co Ltd. The company was started in the mid-19th century by George Cartwright. It was acquired by the well-known firm of Adie Brothers Ltd in 1919. Hallmarks appear on both tops and bottoms.

Measurements; 2 ¼” high, base measures 1 ¼”, 37 grams total weight

Condition Report; Good, no splits or dings noted. Minor surface scratches in accordance with age and use. Some tarnish remains on the tops along with a few spots on the bases. Minor loss of gilt wash. Case is in very good condition
