Antique Mappin & Webb Silver Egg Coddler and Server for Four
Antique Mappin & Webb silver egg coddler and server for four. The English egg-shaped coddler rests on an attached frame with ball shaped feet. The set also has four egg cups with attached plates. The set is crisp and clean in design without any ornamentation or engraving. Perfect centerpiece for the breakfast table or brunch buffet.
Created by Mappin & Webb in their Princes Plate line which was known for a higher quality of silver plating (triple plating). They started advertising Princes Plate around 1890 and continued to make it for years. The plating is still in exceptionally good condition with a brilliant shine. This made it a little difficult when it came to photographing the set. You will notice on the coddler reflections of the light tent and my camera. There are a few tiny little dings, two egg cups are slightly out of round, and micro surface scratches all which are in accordance with age and use. One of the cup holders has a bend to one side. It is only noticeable when all cups are removed, and you view it from the top.
