Antique French Silver Letter Seal Seau, Wax Seal
An antique French silver letter seal for your desk. The seal is beautifully worked with flowers, ribbons, and laurel garlands. Worked in the style of Louis XVI, the seal has a warm patina.
The bottom of the seal was never engraved so it can be personalized with your choice of design. I have read that the French used chocolate seals for dinner invitations and white for letters relating to weddings. There were so many colors used during the 1800's that related to the contents of the letter.
Perfect for gift giving. Antiques are a perfect way to go green, recycle, and give a piece of the past.
French, late 19th C, the marks are very worn, quite small, and hard to decipher. Though I feel this is sterling, due to the worn marks, I will list it as .800 silver.
Condition report; very good, surface scratches in accordance with age and use.
