Antique French Sterling Silver Cheese Knife with Engraved Blade

An antique French sterling silver cheese knife. The sterling blade is engraved with cows and the sterling handle is worked in the style of Louis XIV. The engraving on the blade is a whimsical nod to the happy cows who contribute to the production of cheese.
Crafted by Alphonse Debain, who worked at 79 rue du Temple, Paris. Debain followed in the business behind his father and grand-father and is known for creating high quality table ware and tea sets.

An unusual and entertaining cheese knife.

French, sterling silver of .950 guarantee, Maker’s punch is a woodcock or une bécasse surrounded by the letters A D. Date of inscription (19 march/mars 1883) and worked thru 1911.
