Antique Gorham Sterling Silver & Leather Hip Flask, Whiskey Flask with Removable Cup
Antique Gorham Sterling Silver & Leather Hip Flask, Whiskey Flask with Removable Cup
A fine antique Gorham sterling silver hip flask with removable gilt lined cup. Silver, glass, and leather combine for a handsome hip flask from one of America's most well known silver companies. The largest silver company in the US at this time; Gorham was founded by Jabez Gorham in 1831. The cup has been monogrammed and bears the date of June 23 and the year 98. The Lion, Anchor, and G mark was used in the last quarter of 19th Century, so the year inscribed was for 1898.
The leather is in very good condition with just a few surface scuffs and the usual marks that are found in leather that is used. I have tested the flask to be sure it is water tight. The lid lifts off with a snap and holds tight also. It appears the cork has been replaced. There are a few minor dings in the top as expected for age and use.
American Sterling silver, late 19th C, marked for Gorham
