French Antique Sterling Silver Timbale, Cup, or Beaker, Paris

A French silver timbale or beaker of tulip form on a round gadrooned pedestal base. The late 18th C or early 19th C timbale was created by Louis-Jacques Berger. The initials MT can be clearly seen with another set that appears to be JC that is faint.

A fine collector's piece in very good condition.

French sterling silver of .950 silver content punch is for Louis Jacques Berger, Paris. Berger was known for goblets/timbales/beakers. His first mark was registered 1794 and his hallmark was re-inscribed in September 1807.
Further marks on the piece include, standing rooster with head turned to the left used in Paris for .950 standard silver 1798-1809. Paris guarantee mark (old man in an oval frame with the numbers 85). The third mark is considered an unofficial mark Association des Orfévres (1795-1797).

Measurements; 4 ½” tall, top opening 3 3/8”, 120 grams

Condition Report; Very good, some wear to the decorative lines under the lip of cup and a few surface scratches all in accordance with age and use. Please note the dark areas in some of the pictures are reflections of the camera and/or light tent.
